The support of Partner Authorities and Agencies was confirmed at the National Steering Group on 5th March 2007. We are awaiting a Ministerial appointment to begin the next phase of the development of Initiative at the Edge.
The Initiative is no longer a pilot programme, it is now a well established, well organised vehicle. It looks to stimulate the changes needed to ensure that our most fragile communities have the same opportunities as others to engage with Government and public sector agencies. They must be able to compete on a level playing field. While the Initiative is a unique and targeted programme it is also part of the Scottish Executive’s wider rural economic development strategy for a Smart Successful Scotland as a whole.
With the initial eight designated areas moving through a transitional period of two years period towards exit and ten new areas new designated IaaO status, this is an exciting time for the Initiative.
The Minister will work with the National Steering Group Partners to assist the new designated areas to go from strength to strength, stimulating continued and sustainable economic growth and ultimately stronger sustainable communities.
