 Eday Projects

Eday Community Hostel
Renovations are continuing and additional funding has been secured for new furnishing

Community Gateway House
Land transfer underway.
Site plan has been completed.
Housing Plans have been ordered.
Once the plans have been recieved the application for planning willl be sought and the kit possible purchased

Eday DVD
Funding has been secured to produce the DVD regarding Eday. The DVD will focus on Heritage and to hopefully promote Eday to potnetial developers.

Conduct Housing/Skills Survey
To assess skills on Eday and to identify skill requirements for Gateway House and to produce housing data as a basis for future development.
Skills survey completed and awaiting the analysis.
Housing survey progressing.

Brochures
To produce quality brochures over the next few years detailing Eday's birds, flora, heritage, archaeology and seashore. - Birds leaflet has been designed and is completed.

Walks - Leaflet
Outlining four new walks - The walks are established however the leaflet was not completed on time, the leaflet is expected to be ready for 2007 season.

Development of Community Wind Turbine
A interm result of the feasibility study was presented in a public meeting on the 6th December 06. Twenty members voted - with seventeen in favour of proceeding.

Farmers Market Promotion
To establish the Eday 'brand' and add value to Eday's produce. Have talked to farmers about supply of mutton for sale through the summers farmer market. Research is underway for a chiller, storage etc.. over the winter period.

Fitness Suite
To provide basic facilities for Eday, working to the Scottish Executives targets on health promotion and providing facilities of interest for the young. Looking at housing work units, fitness suites etc... under one roof and ideally a small pool would be included.

Heritage Centre
Currently looking to fit out, fund part-time workers and progress wind to heat turbine. Funding has been secured and the planning process is about to start.

Hydroponicum
To compliment visitor aspect and the producation of local healthy food. - The Achiltibuie has been visited and the site plans have been e-mailed.

Stronsay Projects

Development Plan
The development plan is in place (this document will be forever changing).

Renewables Feasibility Study
Identify possible renewable projects (applicable for Stronsay). A Study has been carried out and published on the local community website - Completed

Limpet
Provoding community with a local newspaper - The newspaper has been produced and is delivered monthly by volunteers - Ongoing

Trust Website
To provide the community with information regarding the trust, meetings and projects. The website is now in place.

Restoration of 'Athenia' Lifeboat
Preservation of small part of Stronsay's heritage. Research work is complete and awaiting site for finished project. No funding is in place at present for this project.

Recreation Area
To provide a safe area for children of all ages and abilities. There is some funding in place for this and it is hoped that the project will be complete in the summer of 2007.

Hydrogen Conference
To raise awareness and pinpoint possible ideas and partners, and also to promote Stronsay as a conference location. Eighty people attended this conference from all over Europe - Completed

Dry Stone Dyke Course
To provide training for this and allow for an enhancement of local skills. Funding is in place and completion date is 31st March 07

Food Hygiene
To provide training for this and allow for an enhancement of local skills. Funding in place and completion date is 31st March 07

Skills Survey
To allow identification of local skills - Completed

Island Survey
To ascertain what the community feel the priorities are - The information has been collected and an action plan has been put in place - Completed.

Social Enterprise
To create revenue for community - the actual project needs to be pinpointed and worked towards.

Charitable Status
To become a registered charity

Business Units
To create affordable business units for small business - First contact made with HIE Orkney to ascertain what help might be available. 

Other Projects

A housing needs survey planned for 2006.

The restoration of a lifeboat from the SS Athenia, currently sited in the village.

Research into possible uses for the now unused Fish Factory at the harbour.
