Kilchoan

Kilchoan playing field - from south–west corner next to pier road

New playing field for Kilchoan.

The sports field had its official opening on 24th September, with childrens sports and the first of many football matches between Kilchoan and Tobermory.  The event also saw a fund raising raffle and Kilchoans ever popular stock judging competition, rasing extra funds for maintenance, the next project - Kilchoan Play Park and The Community Centre beside the sports field.  The afternoon rounded off with a buffet and dance for all families and visitors to the area.

The tremendous effort put in by the local community  cannot be emphasised.  From a community meeting back in 1998, supported by over 30 locals, a committee of 3 was formed.  With a lot of committment and work, from the 3 and from AITE LDO Hughie Donaldson, the pitch was finally completed this year.

In future sporting contests it is hoped to entice the "Muilleachs" out for a day of friendly rivalry.

The sporting contests of old often featured links between these two communities and this facility should enable some of the old rivalry to be re-established.
