Hebridean Connections

'Hebridean Connections'

Hebridean Connections is an exciting new project being established by the Historical Societies of Uig & Bernera in partnership with Pairc & Kinloch Historical Societies in Lewis.  The four groups have put togther a funding package of over £300,000 to set-up and run the project over three years.  £261,500 has been received from the Heritage Lottery Fund, £77,500 from Western Isles Enterprise and £20,000 from Comhairle nan Eilean Siar.

The project aims to digitise the vast archive of local material held by these groups onto a innovative, searchable database that will be available over the internet.  The project will create a 3 year field officers post in each area as well as appointing a project co-ordinator.  The co-ordinators post was filled in June and it is hoped to have the field officer in place by January 2004.
