Coimhearsnacdh Bharraidh agus Bhatarsaidh (Barra and Vatersay Community) Ltd, is a community led company set up to develop projects in Barra and Vatersay. The company administers Iomart Aig An Oir on the Islands of Barra and Vatersay and employs the Local Development Officer, Gerard MacDonald.
Coimearsnacdh Bharraidh agus Bhatarsaidh Ltd (CBAB) is a company with open membership. The board of directors are volunteers elected from its membership and reflect the range of businesses and activities undertaken across the two islands. The members of the board are listed below along with some brief notes about them.
Mairi Campbell - Chairperson
Mairi is a resident of Vatersay, she is a qualified nurse/midwife and currently works as a practise nurse in Barra surgery. Other than being chairperson of CBAB, Mairi works with the community on Vatersay to develop projects on the island. Mairi is a member of CBAB's renewables subgroup.
Roddy MacLeod - Vice-Chairperson
Roddy lives in Bruernish on Barra, he is a master mariner and currently works for Caledonian MacBrayne as a navigation officer. Roddy chairs the Northbay Community Initiative committee.
Donald MacNeil - Treasurer
Donald lives in Bruernish on Barra and is an employee of the Community Employment Initiative. Donald holds a degree in aquaculture and has a great deal of experience in the fish farming industry. Donald is a member of CBAB's renewables subgroup.
Angus MacLeod
Angus lives in Scurribhal on Barra and is a fisherman and a crofter. Angus is the township grazing clerk for Eoligarry and Scurribhal, he is also a lifeboat volunteer. Angus is currently working on projects concerning Eoligarry and Scurribhal, his main focus at present being the erosion problem at Mol Scurribhal. Angus is a member of the renwables subgroup.
Donald W MacLeod
Donald lives on Barra and is a fishing boat skipper/owner. Donald is involved with the RNLI and is a member of the Western Isles Fishermen's Association. Donald's main project at present is the development of a fisheries peir facility in Castlebay, he is also a member of the renewables subgroup.
Donald Manford
Donald Lives in Eoligarry and is Barra's local Councillor. He has been involved in community development through the council and various other bodies such as the Crofting Foundation and the local housing association. Donald is a crofter/fisherman.
Euan Scott
Euan lives at Bentangaval on Barra and works for a technology development company in Castlebay. He has a PhD in conservation biology and a BSc in scological science. Euan is currently looking into the prospects for oyster farming on the island. euan's main project is the development of community owned renewable energy and he leads CBAB's renewables subgroup.
John MacLennan
John lives in Craigston on Barra and is a self employed contractor. He is also a part time crofter.
Michael MacNeil
Michael lives in Ardveenish on Barra he was formerly with the merchant navy and is now employed by Caledonian Macbrayne as a navigation officer. Michael also runs a croft. Michael is a member of the Northbay Community Initiative committee, which is his main project at present.
Neil MacLennan
Neil lives at Cleat on Barra, he works as an engineer with P&O Ferries, having previously been an officer in the merchant navy. Neil also runs a croft. Neil's main project at present is renewables and he is a member of the renewables subgroup. Neil is also taking on a role within CBAB, in which he will focus on recruitment of new members to the company.
Paddy MacKinnon
Paddy lives in Ardmhor on Barra. Previously Paddy has been managing director of a Hong Kong based trading company, was a founder and office bearer of the Honk Kong fundraising branch of the RNLI and when on the mainland she was a publican. Paddy is secretary of the Northbay Community Initiative and is a member of the renewables subgroup.
Peter Brown
Peter lives in Castlebay on Barra. Peter is involved with various activities involving driving (car hire, driver trianing)and voluntary services related to driving. He is also involved in a project to develop a distillery on Barra. Peter will shortly be opening a catering business in Ardmhor. Peter is a member of the renewables subgroup.
William Douglas
Willie lives in Skallary on Barra and is owner/skipper of his fishing boat. Willie is also crew manager of the Highlands and Islands Fire Brigade on Barra. Willie is chairman of Northbay Port Users' Association and is a member of the renewables subgroup.
